Barry McHale

Our man Barry from Liverpool was keen to avoid another Christmas of peeling sprouts and washing up, and so had some quality chill out time here in Caspe, and at times chilly was exactly how he felt. A damp fog came down and some days it was difficult to see where the cast landed and conditions were trying to say the least. However, undeterred Barry heroically faced the elements every day. Eventually the weather did brighten for a few days and Barry had 18 fish to 25lb. A seasoned angler, Barry is already planning another trip.

Simon Northrop

Now living in Valencia, Simon and his wife Lisa travelled by car to Caspe and arrived on New Years Day. They had left behind warm sunshine in the south, to be met with the cool damp fog that still hadn’t moved from Christmas, but they’d come well prepared and within an hour or so of arrival, Simon’s rigs were in the water. As well as beating his personal best, Simon had a lovely 16lb fully scaled. Simon has already booked a return trip with friends from the UK for later in the year.

Mark Wright, Jon Squires and Ian Howard

Mark, Jon and Ian were on their first fishing trip to the Ebro, and were not disappointed. It was only a matter of hours before Mark had a nice 31lb carp on the bank and the others were soon hot on his heels. They landed 475lb of carp in just 2.5 days to 40lb, all beating their personal best. Mark phoned the day he landed back in the UK and booked another trip, his second in 3 weeks!

Jimmy and Graham

After fishing for cat fish last year, when they hauled in cats to 150lb, our old mates Jimmy and Graham were back for more. It was a chilly few days, but they still landed a fair few fish with over 250lb of fish between them in just 2.5 days, as well as a nice Zander for Graham. Another trip is already booked for later this year.

Mark and Jo Wright

Before we knew it, Mark was back with his wife Jo laying down a challenge, and within hours she was well on her way to winning, with a nice 32lb carp followed by fish to 30lb including a 27 and 21lb. Mark fought back with a 35lb and 5 more 20+lb. Jo came out of her corner on the last day with fish to 32lb, beating Marks last offering of 22lb. All in all Mark and Jo landed over 500lb of fish in 2.5 days fishing. And once again, Mark has booked again for another trip next month.

Eric, James and
Jack Banner

Eric and his two sons James and Jack, were on a weekend break before celebrating Jack’s wedding. The weather was very changeable during their trip, but they all beat their personal best with fish to 41lb for Eric, as well as a 32lb for James and a 26 for Jack.

Mark, Billy, Ryan
and Stuart

Mark was back again, this time with his brother Billy and two mates Ryan and Stuart who all beat their personal best. They all chilled out, and even in changeable weather, all managed a respectable suntan. Fish to 33lb were landed with mainly high 20’s and yes you guessed it, Mark has rebooked again. River News

The water levels still remain low possibly due to building work at the Expo Zaragoza 2008, where the theme is Water and its Sustainable development. The exhibition which starts on 14 th June, will, amongst other things, house, the biggest freshwater aquarium in Europe. It will hold 5,000 specimens, 300 species of fauna typical of different river systems from around the world, displayed in over 60 tanks and terrariums. This will be the only aquarium in Spain with such a rich and diverse range of aquatic species, including reptiles, mammals and amphibians. Its definitely worth a visit. www.expozaragoza2008.es

However, fishing is good, with plenty of high 30’s and early 40’s coming out on a regular basis. Zander have just finished spawning and are feeding again. Cat fishing is slowly picking up after the foggy damp weather of January and February, and once the water warms up we expect the usual cat fish frenzy.
