30lb for novice angler Karen,
her first big catch

The novice angler reels in another
31 and 35lb carp

Karen Mason and Andy Reynolds from Middlesex booked a carp and catfishing holiday at short notice with Ebrocatncarp. Karen had never fished before and told us:

‘I’ll be happy just to catch one’.

Under clear blue skies sunny skies Karen thought she was just going to relax and top up her tan, whilst her man Andy reeled in a few fish. Little did she know!

After a quick bit of tuition from our guides Heiko Winter and Tom Rouse, she was soon reeling in baby cat fish, but then the reel screamed off, and

Karen surprised herself and reeled in a fabulous 30lb carp.

Andy in the meantime was also keeping busy with carp catches to 28lb but his moment was about to come and he landed this amazing 148lb catfish

The takes kept on coming, and over the course of their holiday, Karen and Andy had 1048lb of catfish in just two days, with 6 over 100lb and 3 over 140.

Hot on Andy’s heels, Karen’s novice days were over and she also hauled in a monster at 142lb all by herself!

They had a fabulous 5 days fishing with Ebrocatncarp, a great combination of relaxing under sunny Spanish skies, along with some unexpected catches for Karen

Andy knew she had it in her to beat her original 30lb carp, and on their last day he graciously took to the float rod whilst Karen reeled in take after take.

And just as a big steak and cool beer was calling him, Karen took the very last take of their holiday and beat her own personal best with a lovely 35lb carp.

We welcome both experienced and novice anglers.

Although Karen had never caught a fish before her trip to Spain with Ebrocatncarp, she was soon getting fish after fish onto the bank. They both picked up lots of tips and advice, and we feel sure Andy will now have a bit of competition when he goes fishing in England!

Oh and the odd carp to 38lb just to make it interesting!

Jim Kelly from Wakefield, on his 6th visit to the Ebro, and on his second two week break this year, was just hoping to land just one 100lb catfish. Instead, he hauled in a massive 14 cats over 100lb, with an amazing monster of 152lb!

Yes, catfishing for just 6 days, Jim landed 66 catfish, totalling over 4200lb. On two consecutive days he netted over 1100lb. Was he knackered or what!

As usual, Jim was intending to relax on the bank, and answer the call of the rods, between a bit of shut eye and a nice cup of tea. But with our guides Heiko Winter and Tom Rouse continually boating out the rigs, and keeping the swim topped up with pellets, he barely had time to get his bum on his bedchair. The fishing was manic, giving Jim some amazing sport, and plenty of double takes.

Jim is by no means a hardcore angler, preferring to match fish his local rivers for roach and bream. On this visit all Jim’s catfish were caught on 4lb test curve rods, with big pit Shimano bait runner reels, using 80lb main line, with 3-4 pellets, hair rigged to hook size 6/0

Not content with his catfish haul, the following week saw Jim go on to also beat his personal best with not just one, but two, 38lb carp and so many high 20’s and low 30’s that we actually stopped counting.

The water level here at Caspe is already six metre’s, down and still falling. This is a normal thing every year. Due to the dam system in the area, and the very rainless summer, water gets used for crop irrigation. This means that the fish are more compacted, and swims that were previously under water, are now accessible.
