A Family Passion for FishingAn unexpected break for globe trotting businessman Keith Palmer, meant an opportunity for a visit to the River Ebro for him and his wife Norma and son James aged 13. Young James had surfed the net, and come across the Ebrocatncarp website, and with a bit of gentle persuasion, his Dad was soon on the case. A quick call to Ebrocatncarp meant that very soon the Palmer family were up up and away from their home in Hull , headed for some quality family rest and relaxation, along with fantastic fishing. ‘We’ll be happy with one fish a day’ was the remit from Keith and Unusually for the average British woman, Norma, a trendy Mum of three, is a keen angler. Not many days go by when she doesn’t spend a few hours at her local riverbank. One of her daughters and son James also follow in Mum’s footsteps, making it a real family passion. After they had a slow drive down to Caspe from Barcelona , we met the Palmer family at the Hotel Magallon. After a few drinks at the bar, plans were made for the next day and we left them to get a good night’s sleep. Plans had been changed once, when having already reserved rooms for them at a different hotel in Mequinenza, the river there was so high, that it made fishing conditions very difficult. To ensure they had the best chance of catching lots of fish, and at quite short notice, we suggested to them, that Caspe would be a better option, and so we rebooked their accommodation and the next day they were keen to see what the River Ebro had to offer and if the change of venue had been worthwhile. James with a lovely 5lb Creuchean CarpJames proved himself to be an excellent young angler, and with tips from Heiko Winter and soon become the chief Creuchean Carp catcher. Water levels were high even at Caspe, making conditions quite difficult, but the Palmer family beat their own personal bests time after time. Up early each morning, and ready to rumble, their enthusiasm was amazing. Teenager James was keen to learn and it was heartening to see his commitment to angling. Keith soon relaxed and the stresses and strains of constant business travel gradually disappeared and he netted this nice 24lb carp After a couple of quite rainy days, the water level rose even more at the swim in Caspe, making good fishing very difficult, so we moved up to the town of Chiprana, where the family were once again straight onto fish and kept our guide Heiko Winter busy with the landing net, and we stopped counting after they brought over 60 fish onto the bank. Norma Nets a fabulous 27lb carp Keith, Norma and son James all agreed they’d had fantastic time with us. After a hard days’ fishing they were able to wander into the town just a few minutes away from their accommodation, and sample the various places to eat, which include a Pizza and Pasta, Chinese restaurant, and a very good steak bar, and, with Keith’s work permitting, were already planning a return trip to Spain with us later on this year. Rods and Reels ready for action and an amazing view of the town of Chiprana After a few days of overcast conditions, the sun came out, the fleeces came off and Norma topped up her tan and showed a distinct touch of girl power as she landed fish after fish. Another 20+ for NormaAt Ebrocatncarp we concentrate on one group of anglers at a time, meaning that its ideal for a family trip where youngsters can receive individual help from our guides to improve their angling skills and the more experienced members of the family can concentrate on catching their own personal bests.
