A FANTASTIC 48.5lb Making a choice is a difficult decision. None more so, than when you want to book a first time, winter carping holiday, to the River Ebro. It’s the one River, serious anglers always want to fish, but the question is, which one of the many companies will provide you with enough knowledge and experience of the river, to give you the best opportunity to catch that big fish. Ian Tomkins and his mate Andy Macdonald from West Sussex , had great time winter carp fishing with Ebrocatncarp in February 07 and beat their personal After an early evening flight into Zaragoza , we met them at the airport, and after a few rounds at the bar and a good nights sleep, Ian and Andy were raring to go, and at 7 o’clock the next morning we picked them up and soon they were Heiko Winter and Tom Rouse, the Ebrocatncarp guides had already set up a swim, and all the tackle and equipment was there ready for their arrival, it wasn’t long before Ian and Andy made their first cast, and then settled down under clear blue Sunday proved to be a bit slow, but the guys were realistic enough to know that sometimes the fish just are not biting. They picked up some good tips about fishing the Ebro , from Heiko Winter and Tom Rouse, and on Monday were armed ready for action. The morning was also a bit slow, but with a few knocks on the At Ebrocatncarp, we don’t just sit and wait for the fish to bite, if it’s too quiet, for too long, we’ll try a different swim. There was talk of moving to a different spot. The lads were away! A 24lb carp was next on the mat, swiftly followed by a 37.5lb; Ian and Andy couldn’t stop smiling. As with any excitement, copious cups of tea were called for. These guys, and mum Mavis who came along for a spot of Spanish winter sun,
Ian Atkins with his first 37.5lb carp Tuesday bought an amazing 48.5lb carp for Andy, and his smile says it all, what a fantastic fish. After just 3 days fishing these guys had beaten their personal best time and again, and were even talking of another trip.
Andy Macdonald with a fabulous 48.5lb Ebro carp Ian had a day of action on Wednesday, with fish to 34lb, including a mid 20lb and others to 13lb. After his exertion the day before, Andy chilled out with a few more cups of tea!
Ian lands a 41lb beauty. The next few days saw lots more fish to 41lb, for both the lads, and as if that wasn’t enough, by a sheer fluke, because of their flight times, the guys grabbed a few unplanned and unexpected few hours at the swim before their flight home, and managed to net a further 27lb and two more fish to 13lb.
Andy was almost on his way home, and this 27lb All in all a thoroughly enjoyable week not only for Ian, Andy and Mum, Mavis, but also for us at Ebrocatncarp. These guys had never fished the Ebro before. Andy later emailed us and said: Ian and I had a truly amazing time out of all our fishing holidays this was by far the best we have done. Heiko and Tom were fantastic……..they not only saw to our every need, they also passed on loads of info which not only helped us fishing the Ebro, but will also help us back here in the UK, we cannot thank them enough. We will be coming back next year, might even nip over for a long weekend. What a fantastic holiday, what fantastic hosts. Once again a million thanks. |
